Maurice A. Stiff

Carver

Maurice Stiff is from Linden Michigan and was born in 1946. Maurice lives in a small town in the southern part of Michigan.

Maurice A. Stiff lives in a small town in the southern part of Michigan. In the past he speared Pike in many of the lakes around his home of Linden. Maurice has lived in Linden all his life and enjoyed fishing and hunting.

He carved many dectorive duck decoys and won many Best of Shows with them. He thought he would try and carve some fish decoys over the winter.

Mauice used basswood from the U. P. of Michigan. His decoys are made using a very sharp knife . They have wooden tails with glass eyes. They are painted by hand with a brush using Acrylic paints.

He started doing these decoys on his own and uses many different patterns, some of witch he changes one way or the other.

Maurice told me "The carvers that I would call Mentors are Sonny Bayshore and Carl Christiansen. I like their style very much."
