Lawrence "Slim" Brinkman 1905-1976

Carver

Slim Brinkman was born in 1905 near Kimball Minnesota. He died in March of 1976 at the age of 70. Most of his spear decoy making time was spent in St. Cloud, Minnesota.

Mr. Brinkman's decoys apparently run a wide gamut of design and quality. As far as can be determined by surviving examples, all of his decoys had wooden tails. Some of his cruder fish were painted in a peppermint fashion in colors of red and white or yellow and red. his fancier decoys were painted gold, silver, or yellow an he painted detailed scaling on these decoys. The shape of fins was also changed over time.

(information is an extract from "Folk Art Fish Decoys with Values" page 113

by Donald J. Petersen) (other examples of his fish decoys can be found in this same book on page 36)

The above examples are reported to by Lawrence J. Brinkman's decoys.
