Ron Deiss was selected as Carver of the Month for August 2008 for his devotion to spear fishing and passing along his experience and knowledge to the next generation. Thanks Ron for help keeping ice fish spearing alive and well. (Fishcritter)
Ron Deiss hails from Rock Island Illinois and enjoys ice spear fishing, carving fish and as a part time hobby conducts research on the subject. In 2006 he was published by the Big River magazine in an article named "Spearing Fish Through the Ice" and the Oshkosh Public Museum an article named "A Brief History of Ice Spear fishing on the Fox River and its Tributaries in East Central Wisconsin" . Another article Ron wrote is Ice Spear Fishing and Fish Decoys is one of my favorites that I have read of his. Ron does his research and seems to get it right. See the "Decoy Reference Materials" on this website for more of Ron's and others works.
